Literacy is a vitally important part of life at Dene Community School.
Developing literacy skills is a key component of success at school and in life. All students in Key Stage 3 are part of the Accelerated Reader Scheme. This allows them to engage in a wide range of reading fiction and non-fiction. Reading sessions are undertaken in English lessons as well as tutor time and other subject areas. All students are expected to carry their reader with them. The students take tests at the end of each book to track their comprehension and vocabulary skills.
As well as the above, students undertake a weekly literacy quiz as part of their morning tutor experience. We will also be submitting a portfolio for the completion of the Basic Skills Quality Mark in the near future.
