The Health & Social Care Department believes that every child should be valued for their individuality. Students are encouraged to develop their full potential in a stimulating and caring environment as Health & Social Care is a subject which underpins a basic understanding of the care sector and the NHS Service.
What we offer (KS4)
The BTEC First Award in Health & Social Care provides the structure required to allow students to understand how people develop and grow throughout the life stages. At the same time students also become more aware of their own personal development as we provide an inspiring, rewarding and safe environment for all learners to themselves develop and grow.
What will I be studying?
BTEC First Award in Health & Social Care
UNIT 1 Lifespan Development
UNIT 2 Health & Social care Values
UNIT 3 Effective Communication in Health & Social Care
UNIT 5 Promoting Health & Wellbeing
In order to achieve the award you will complete to a Pass, Merit or Distinction standard the above 4 units (one of which is externally marked) and complete the course consisting of 120GLH. This will be evidenced through a range of both classroom based activities, work experience activities and through the knowledge gained via visiting speakers and off site activities (Life Choice Babies).
What’s happening now?
Currently our Year 10 students are preparing to go out on their work experience placements. This involves working within one of the care sectors and experiencing first hand the qualities, skills and strengths required to work in the world of Health & Social Care.
